About Me

I'm Lauryn, a fashion design graduate, from the Univeristy of Leeds

For the last 3 years, I have studied Menswear Design at the University of Leeds. During my studies, I have developed skills in CAD design, illustration technique, print design, pattern cutting and garment construction.

This portfolio is a selection of work compiled during my final year at university, where I designed and developed 5 collections. The work presented takes inspiration from a combination of political movements, real-world societal issues and fashion movements in the past. Other projects that have been completed throughout the year include the exploration of sustainability; investigating zero waste pattern cutting techniques in combination with natural dyes. Throughout each collection, I have provided contemporary design solutions for a variety of brands and customers.

INSPIRATION

'Homelessness' was the focal point for two portfolios, creating politically driven collections.

My first collection was inspired by the increasing number of homeless individuals on the streets in the UK. This A/W 2022 collection was designed for Comme Des Garcons where a combination of prints and political wording such as 'housing is a human right' were used to design striking garments reflective of Comme De Garcons' unconventional silhouette.

My second portfolio centred around the concept of 'homelessness' focused on the European refugee crisis of 2015. The main inspiration was taken from 'patera' boats, which were used to transport refugees overseas, which heavily inspired the print development for this collection. This A/W 2022 collection was designed for Stone Island, where a combination of colourful prints were used with silhouette inspiration taken from life jackets to create garments reflective of this political crisis.

DETAIL

Subtraction Pattern Cutting x Water pollution

This collection takes a sustainable approach to garment design and development through the use of subtraction pattern cutting and natural dying, in an attempt to promote more sustainable fashion. I want to break the association of sustainable fashion with “dull” and “minimal aesthetic” and create on-trend garments with a streetwear orientation.
