About Me

Heya! I'm Lauren, a Fashion Communication Graduate from UWE.

Lauren Stone is a creative who specialises in Creative Direction, Art Direction and Photography. Her research explores personal interest topics such as femininity and youth identity and the perceptions within them. Lauren has been able to express her creative attitudes and mediums through a multitude of live group and self directed projects.

The Fashion Communication course has been a part of my life for three years now. With this, I have found my creative identity blossom in a range of areas through challenges and experimentation. My work questions the close dynamic of reality and fantasy, while exploring these through different tones of work. Even though I have graduated, I believe my academic journey has not ended and I am not sure it ever will. I will use my ever-growing interest to allow myself to become the freelancer I have always wanted to be.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration is taken from the world around us, how people perceive and are perceived differently.

This inspiration was initially explored through 'The Shrew', a self-directed project in where I explored woman in art, more specifically Renaissance Women, and how they can be perceived by the viewer. The balance of women of art and women in art is too unstable and I believe this to be true for many creatives sectors like the unbalance in classic literature. This project grew from these ideas and 'The Taming of The Shrew', by William Shakespeare, in which they try to tame an 'unruly' women.

This desire to explore perceptions grew and I started experimenting with the ideas of the representation of femininity and women within the 'real' world. I internalised a lot of ideas and work and as I know what these perceptions of others and yourself can affect someone. The idea that what I might internalise compared to others is so vastly different from each other grew my passion into a project known as 'The Delicate Force', a publication exploring the different stages of femininity.

DETAIL

A Delicate Force

This project follows a women's journey of her femininity, exploring six different stages throughout her life; Schoolgirl, Lover, Solider, Mother, Friend and Mature. This idea was influenced by Shakespeares, '7 Ages of Man', in which it highlights the feelings and experiences of that age. Within these sections, six emotions were explored in response to each stage, leaving us with; confusion, pressure, fear, unity, strength and power, in a reflection of how we feel about ourselves within femininity..
