About Me

I’m Kezia Tamah, a BCU Fashion Design student of class 2021

The qualities of these works is to exist within the realms romance and imagination. Dedicated to exploring the soft and ghostly qualities of female energy, I am often drawn to the organic shapes and textures derived from nature. I focus on celebrating the power and creativity of the inner child by composing much of my imagery with a youthful sensibility

My final project was imagined soon after the passing of my mother, rediscovering a Beatrix Potter book she had passed down to me from her childhood to mine ‘The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes’ ignited an exploration of our relationship and how she defined the way in which I now navigate the world without her.

INSPIRATION

The research stages were defined by the exploration of giving a piece of yourself to another.

I was drawn to studying the world around me as if I had fallen into a scape of sentimental memories and Beatrix Potter isms, this informed much of my design work as I was led to create a new reality for the wearer of my garments, creating a dreamy atmosphere around the body through imagery and silhouette.

Enamoured by the concept of my mother leaving an eternal piece of herself with me through not just this storybook, but the memories we made and lessons she taught me. My intent was to realise a garment that encapsulated the nature of this relationship with my mother, outlining that the garment must evolve, encompass and interchange.

DETAIL

Design determined by concept

The focus on print and surface detail was heavy within my research to form a plethora of visuals that encompass the wearer, my study of nature and stains throughout entailed a theme of ‘happy accidents’ within my dyeing process using steam and the natural dyes from berries and botanicals, I developed a range of textiles that would tell their own story. Button fastenings create detaching features on the garment that allow it to evolve and interact with the wearer, whilst layers and layers of prints embrace the body in the form of scarfs and varied garments making the possibilities of adaptation and exchange endless. My collection is composed to be transformed, borrowed and shared with loved ones, defining its purpose as an item to be collected and passed on.
