About Me

Hi, I'M KELIS. A FASHION DESIGN GRADUATE FROM BCU.

Kelis was inspired by her own childhood memories, "I believe as we grow up, the times of no responsibility and the luxury of paying no mind to the outside world becomes a distant memory." She reminisces on the fun things done as children and in all appreciates it even more as an adult. If you could go back, would you?

The message is to celebrate children being children and capture the innocence, the playfulness and the imaginative chaotic mind they all have in common.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea started from reflecting on simpler times.

To me, looking back at old photographs from my childhood and reliving the memories was so exciting. It brought back a wave of emotions and feelings that I definitely wanted to express. I have always been fascinated by children, and they way they create their own world to live in.

The secondary inspiration was the thought of independence. I was very much so the kid to say "I can do it myself mom" or take things into my own hands even if I did need the help. Following from this, I wanted to celebrate the way children think when making choices; whether that be picking their own clothes and shoes to wear or choosing what to play with. I wanted the create garments that involved a child's choice, so they could freely express what they wanted to do.

DETAIL

I used artwork drawn by children to create my prints.

The main ideal for creating this collection was emphasising the creativity and playful dynamic that the brand stands by. The motto "inspired by the kids" really came into affect when producing my garments; the shape, colours, and prints were all taken into consideration after discussing with children what their favourites were. I also paid attention to the thought of mismatching clothing to display how children think, act and engage in the world

"Children are not only innocent and curious but also optimistic and joyful and essentially happy. They are, in short, everything adults wish they could be." - Carolyn Haywood
