About Me

Hi I'm Katie-mae a fashion design and marketing graduate.

I have studied fashion for 6 years in total, throughout that time I have found my love for menswear and gender neutral fashion.

My attitude towards design focuses on art led fashion, innovative pattern cutting to create intriguing shapes and silhouettes. I enjoy experimenting with new techniques to create texture and tactility in my garments.

INSPIRATION

I took inspiration from traditional vintage samurai uniform.

Traditional vintage samurai uniform inspired my silhouette, particularly the officers. The overly exaggerated shoulders, long skirts with pleats, the wide hakama trousers all layered on top of each other to create such an interesting shape. I design simple yet effective pieces through pattern cutting intriguing shapes. A dark aesthetic that carries the brand throughout all collections, bringing interest through shape and texture from mixing knit techniques with heavy fabrics.

By mixing the innovative silhouettes with heavy loose knit and my prints I have reached the outcome I set out for. I wanted a simplistic, layered up monochromatic and tactile collection. Wanting to create wearable art, I chose to print my garments after they were made, this ensured each piece was individual and no two were the same. This reinforced the 'low-fi' aesthetic I was trying to achieve; I like the perfectly imperfect result I got. My prints were inspired by the intarsia knit method I used.

THE HAND KNITTED JUMPER

To create this jumper, I used the intarsia hand knitting method with 15 mm needles. I mixed multiple types of recycled yarn such as wool, acrylic and shredded t-shirt jersey to get this effect and to stick by my sustainable values. I left long pieces of yarn out and sealed the ends with plasti-dip to add weight so that the jumper hung in the correct way.
