HI, I'M KATIE A FASHION DESIGN GRADUATE FROM LIVERPOOL JOHN MOORES
I am a Menswear designer currently based in North Wales. I specialise in outwear, knitwear, and accessories design.
I am a highly conceptual designer and draw from my own personal experiences to create relevant and relatable ideas. The aim of my work is to provide a dialogue between the viewer and the work. My strengths lie within research, design development, and illustration as I am very efficient at conveying my ideas.
INSPIRATION
INITIAL IDEAS AND CONCEPT INSPIRATION
The initial concept originated from the theme of men’s mental health and how young men tend to be neglectful of their mental state due to societal stigmas. This is combined with the contrasting theme of ‘Granny Chic’ and ‘Grandma etiquette’, focusing on how grandma's routines, surroundings, and clothing can provide them with a sense of comfort and protection which in turn maintains and improves their mental health.
The collection highlights how young men can learn a profound amount about themselves from their grandmas including self-love and self-care. The collection, therefore, honours grandmas routines and utilises handcrafts- such as knitting, weaving, and crochet to further ideas of comfort and protection. The project embodies a humorous and playful mood which is echoed in both my practice and pink colour palette.
