About Me

Hi, I'm Katie, a graduated from NTU.

The inspiration for my collection comes from the special design of modern and ancient architecture. The architecture of different ages has its meaning behind it. I hope my design will give people an understanding of the cultural interests of different countries.

Because of the experience of living in Britain and China, what impresses me most is the environment and urban architecture of the two countries. Especially the landmark building, it is always easy to evoke people's memory of it, as soon as you see it, you can associate it with the city and even the whole country.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea stared from surrounding architectures

When traveling in different countries or cities, I always attracted by peculiar architectural designs. Their colours, patterns, carvings, and so on make me feel very interested. The modern buildings in different countries are very similar, so what interests me more is the ancient buildings, because they show the difference in design.

My Chinese heritage enhances my understanding of Chinese architecture. I find that many modern Chinese buildings are included with some traditional Chinese cultural elements. For example, the building is designed in the shape of ancient copper coins and a brown-red teapot.

DETAIL

Integration of modern and ancient architectural elements

Chinese ancient bridges are mostly made of wood and marble. They have different shapes. They are oval, Pentagon, rectangle, and so on. Most modern bridges use metal, the most representative is the suspension bridge and cable-stayed bridge. The handle design of my bag is inspired by the shape of the bridge. I like the irregular shape and simple geometric decoration of modern architecture. Its simple lines and fine texture form a nice pattern. The shapes in my bag design are inspired by modern architecture, such as a pentagonal bag. There are many carved patterns in ancient Chinese architecture, such as people, animals, plants, mountains, water, circles, characters, and so on. From the reference of these patterns, I began to design my patterns and integrate them into my design. For example, I included cloud patterns in each bag design. All of my designs are included with modern and ancient architectural elements that I like.

I like modern architecture because it makes me experience it and feel its magnificence. I like ancient architecture because it makes me have fantasy and feel its vicissitudes.
