About Me

HI, IM KATE A FASHION PROMOTION GRADUATE FROM USW CARDIFF

Kate was inspired by sustainability and emotional connections people have with preloved clothing for her final major project – Kates used striking visuals, interviews and poetry all dedicated to this topic to create her magazine.

“My message is: We as consumers need to start taking the consequences of fast fashion seriously, and by doing so taking a deeper look at our shopping habits. I want to show people that shopping second-hand allows a whole new sense of connection come into play and how it is much more rewarding than a quick fast fashion buy” – Kate Rossini.

INSPIRATION

My initial idea started from an interest in preloved clothing and a sense of connection.

Over the summer lockdown I found myself experimenting with different styles and clothes, out of boredom I started rummaging through my mum and nans wardrobe and realised they had clothes they no longer wore that would be considered fashionable today. I started a series on my Instagram account where I would post how I would style and wear my families old clothes. I also spoke about the sense of connection the clothes had to me in the Instagram captions.

I quickly started to realise that people were reacting to my captions quite a lot and were interested in the stories behind the clothes I was wearing. This is what lead onto the creation of Before Yours. A magazine full of preloved/vintage clothing displaying the meaning behind the clothes used.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

The photoshoots focused on a sense of connection via clothing and bringing a sense personality.

I wanted each model to wear something that had a significant meaning to them, either passed down through a relatives wardrobe or from a vintage/charity shop. I was able to capture the meaning behind the clothing by creating a sense of personality to shine through the photography used for Before Yours. This will allow the reader to feel connected on a personal level with the model and the items of clothing/accessories.

I want people to really think about where their clothes come from, I want people to take a deeper look at their clothes and unravel the stories behind them.
