About Me

Junior Fashion Designer and graduate from Istituto Marangoni.

Josefine is a soon to be graduate from Istituto Marangoni Fashion Design and Accessories with focus on Womenswear. She has always been fascinated by creativity, its different forms and meanings. "Creativity and using the body as a form of expression is very important to me, I see it as a way of releasing your inner self".

Before coming to Milan, Italy she studied Visual arts, Biology, Economics and Theory of Knowledge, to mention a few, in Sweden which has all impacted her in her way of thinking and exploring new topics. Her interest in aesthetics and exploring what it means to create something beautiful, new and capturing has lead her on to mixing the two very different aesthetics; Swedish minimalism and cleanness with Italian power and extravagance.

INSPIRATION

How can you be sure that what you remember really is reality?

Our mind is a mysterious place where we can make up almost anything. We rely on it for so many things especially memory even if its very unreliable. This was the starting point for this collection, the manipulation that our mind does to create memories. Continuing researching different theories about how the mind works opened the door to cognitive psychology a scientific study on how we receive and process the information that we are exposed to everyday all the time.

The arts have for a long time used the mind and memory as a tool. Exploring how we can change and manipulate certain aspects to create a completely new world. Repetition, colour, shapes and focus is all tools that we can use to manipulate our surroundings. For this collection I wanted to dig into how it would be possible to change and manipulate fabrics and shapes. How can we create an illusion of something or make space where there was none before.

DETAIL

Pleats

A manipulation made by pleating the fabric horizontally. The manipulation is placed both in the from and back of the garment so that the fabric in the middle can create a soft and round volume. This manipulation was inspired by the many layers that we create in our mind when we try to remember things. It can also represent the modifications and manipulations we do to our memory in our mind with time as the manipulation changes depending on where it is placed. The volumes and empty space that it takes up is very interesting as it creates an empty space in the space and that it changes depending on the movement that the garment makes. The soft rolls that the pleats are following create an illusion and differentiates it self from the other big side volumes.

Science is how we solve problems, Art is how we deal with them.
