About Me

Hi, I'm Jihyeon. I studied fashion at Bunka Fashion College

I'm from Korea and entered fashion school in Japan. I have been interested in fashion since childhood, and after being impressed by Seoul fashion week shows, I was driven to become a fashion designer. At Bunka Fashion College, I learned all about fashion, pattern technology and business apart from the design.

I'm good at trend analysis, and during my studies, I did my best to create a collection that is not narrowed down to one genre. During my student life, I participated in various fashion contests and events. From all of those skills that I acquired during my studies I am now working as a women's wear designer in Tokyo. I am deeply interested in sustainability at the moment, and I am working on the use of 3D technologies in fashion.

INSPIRATION

”New Sporty Modern” collection that combines trends from different kinds of sports

ON YOUR MARK: I used this phrase as the brand name and it is also used as a sign during the competition. I believe that sport is a communication tool that can bring everyone together. It's like a language that representatives of different nations can understand. I focused on the diversity that underlies any sport. I came up with a design that combines casual wear with sportswear details, materials and characteristics. Mixing these different elements gives a sense of trendiness.

The lines seen on the running tracks of the stadium was an inspiration I incorporated into the beautiful curves and piping lines that were reproduced with drapes. To create an elegant design but not too casual, I used black and beige as the base colours, and green as an accent. The concept is expressed with a bold green line that runs through the original textile. Sportswear tends to be simply casual. I thought about the sporty modern design while creating this collection.

DETAIL

ON YOUR MARK 2022: Tension at the beginning of the competition.

I didn't think that this graduation collection was the end of my fashion journey, but rather the beginning. While creating it, I expressed the thought “Jihyeon's fashion career has just started”. I feel enthusiasm when thinking about the future rather than worries. I developed 9 unisex looks. I didn't focus on just one material, but used fabrics with various textures and colours, but I tried to keep the collection clean to avoid unnecessary noise. The original patterns were printed on the eco-friendly acetate 100% fabric using a sustainable method that uses less water. In order to complement the brand identity, the logo is created in a light color that works well with key colors. Most of the creations were draped three-dimensionally to create a beautiful silhouette. Hair and makeup is an important visual expression that elaborates the design concept. Wet hair that looks like sweat, green glitter, which is the accent colour, and white lines are those final touches that bring the collection together.

”Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” - Vincent Van Gogh
