About Me

I am a soon to be fashion graduate, but there is so much more to me

I have spent the last three years working towards this moment and the future beyond, but there is so much more to me than just a fashion student. I am someone who has take their own mental health struggles a lesson I can use to try to help others. I am a crafts person, a daughter, a friend and a bookworm. I have learned to live life to the full.

This new outlook on life that I have recently adopted is because of a recent reminder that life is so short. This means I want to focus on building a career I've always dreamed of, and that seems obtainable with the skills I have learned; design, garment construction, fashion writing, and potentially fashion buying due to my skills in research and analysis.

INSPIRATION

Those that have impacted my life and career...

I began my degree in the hopes of making my late Nan proud, who with the simple phrase,"take care, precious cargo", reminded me each day just how important I was not only as a granddaughter, but as a person. Since then I have since lost my Dad and so this is also for him, who always reminded me to put my education first, and told me I was capable of anything. then we have the field related inspirations, who affect not only my work, but inspired me to be the change in the industry I want to see.

With this in mind, Vivienne Westwood has been an inspiration from the very beginning, not only with her alternative designs, but also her efforts to be proactive about climate change. I also greatly admire Stella McCartney though her efforts have felt attacked, Her brand continues to push the need for environmental change within the fashion industry. A brand that I also admire is MadHappy, who since 2017, have been trying to not only raise awareness for mental health issues but also make an impact.

DETAIL

Final Collection

The trials and success' of my FMP taught me so much, not only about the industry, but also about my own mental health. All the while learning to cope with the issues I face everyday. I know that we all have our own demons, it's a cruel part of being human that so many have to face alone. Though these are often difficult to deal with, we each must take the time to learn what makes our demons tick, that is half the battle, when learning to live with them. Our demons are not our enemies, they are our hurt, our anxiety, our grief, and our coping mechanisms. Learning to live with them all begins with finding out about not only about ourselves, but who and what our demons are. This is what this project is all about, as well as promoting healthy coping methods, and subverting traditional views on what mental health issues are. My advice is get to know your inner demons, they're hurting too.
