About Me

This is Jennifer, a fashion design graduate from NTU.

I am a HongKongese designer based in Nottingham specialised in sustainable fashion, digital toiling and 3D modelling. My projects stem from heritage of the East and preserving the fading traditions from my upbringing. Along with personal roots merged in designs, I focuses on creating low maintenance garments and experiments with biomaterials.

Throughout the study in fashion design, I believe that garment formed from a piece of fabric and shall be returned to the original state after its life span. Therefore I design in a timeless way that the garments are actually meant to be worn, to interact with body movements and making the user feel comfortable and calming.

INSPIRATION

Nothingness: see the infinite possibilities from oriental simplicity

The eastern Buddhist notion named “Nothingness” is a call for us to let things go and stay as it is. I came across this concept when I was going through a burnout from overwhelmed pressure and expectations, these made me started thinking: what is the point of all these success or failures when we are not even existing in a hundred years? We shall let go of all these desire and sufferings when nothing actually matters.

DETAIL

A low maintenance, zero waste womenswear collection made from waste material.

The emptiness and void mentioned by the Buddhist notion is expressed through the use of zero waste pattern cutting and stressing garment wearability via timeless design. All the garments are formed from a single piece of rectangular pattern and could be reverted to a complete piece of fabric after its life cycle, so that no textiles would be wasted. Material chosen are all deadstock/ waste fabrics/ donated ones and are low care, which means they are crease resistant, easy to clean and kind to skin, hence less washing and ironing are needed. Furthermore, Clo 3D is used for digital toiling in order to reduce the waste produced in draping and toiling processes. I stress the wearability of garments where they could be worn and blend into the city and daily environment, letting the simplicity in design speaks its adaptability and translated into comfort.
