A creative who has always had design at the forefront of her life. Specialising in Womenswear with a strong love for reworking the old and turning it into new. She creates technically advanced clothing with the aim of making the wearer feel the best version of themselves.
I always endeavour to create truly unique clothing that can be passed through generations and for my designs to hold memories that last for years. I am motivated by details which I express through intricate design and pattern cutting. I believe that no garment deserves to be thrown away and I thrive with reconstructing old garments to create new visually interesting designs. Sustainability is always something I incorporate however small or large, because how else will we still be able to design, if we don’t have a planet to live on anymore?
INSPIRATION
How many derelict buildings have you given an unloving glance to, labelling them as an eyesore? Well, ever since I was a young child, I have loved exploring these forgotten places. I would immerse myself in their destruction details and wonder what these buildings once were. This sparked off both an interest in abandoned architecture and my creativity because I would create narratives of who used to live there or events that had happened to them in the past.
The idea of them being lost within society would upset me, as they take you on a journey back to the past, to the day that they were abandoned. I see such beauty in the way that they show resilience by exposing their destruction; like broken windows or cracked walls as beautiful, rather then something that needs to be fixed. I feel such strength within these forsaken places and wanted to use this feeling and manipulate it into my collection, to show that nothing is ever truly broken.
DETAIL
I wanted to play around with the ideology of destruction and create a new sense of beauty through details such as: slashes, raw edges, cut outs and patchwork. Through these details I wanted to show that something can be labelled as conventionally damaged, but still have a sense of life and energy surrounding it. My collection encourages the viewer to see the vulnerability and tactility within the texture, architecture and environment of abandoned places. The second-hand garment patchwork detail that is prevalent across my collection, creates a homage to the memory of both the derelict building and the clothing left to decay, unwanted by society. To create the sense of exploration which these forsaken places offer, I have played around with different types of cut outs- destroying the barrier between fabric and the wearer. I drafted all the destructive details within my collection through innovative pattern cutting techniques and used ways of finishing them to ensure longevity in quality.
