About Me

Hi, I'm Jade, a Fashion Communicate graduate from UWE Bristol

I'm a multi-disciplinary creative with a practice focussing on image making and styling with experience in direction and production. I create visual stories often surrounding hybrid themes such as ugliness and beauty and human experience and fantasy. I'm highly experienced in using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign for image re-touching, post-production and layout.

My final project at university 'OUT OF THIS WORLD' combines research surrounding mythology, fantasy and the supernatural. I visually bring a mixture of characteristics from the beings from their historic stories to bend and explore them in new and modern ways through a raw yet fantastical lens. Previous projects have been used to explore and visualise the difference between good and bad taste (very much up to your own personal interpretation), subvert or exaggerate character archetypes, character building, storytelling and how the body plays into all of it.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration stems from wanting to combine juxtaposing themes.

In a world today where people are constantly searching for new experiences, I strive to experiment with contrasting themes so I can produce images that are both playful and subversive. I like exploring my own personal experiences and beliefs, as well as the people around me and combing them with historic beliefs of certain topics - this way I'm able to create these visual hybrids. My main pool of inspiration comes from a combination of human experience, fantasy, "bad taste" and internet and pop culture.

I like to experiment with the body as well as fashion through pose and movement, I think this can help make the images feel like they're coming to life more and convey a stronger feeling whether that's through performance or intuition.

DETAIL

Combining "beauty" and "ugliness" is something I want to continue exploring throughout my practice

When combining opposing themes, the possibilities for creation and experimentation feel endless, particularly with what's seen as beauty and ugliness because there are so many different interpretations of them both, both subjective to each person and historically. I'm looking forward to seeing how I can take these projects to a larger scale throughout connecting with other creatives that share a similar vision to me. Through combining irony, hybrid themes and playfulness I want to create a visual world that grapples between the real and fake.
