Isobel is dedicated to challenging conventional fashion norms through adaptable, innovative design. Her work is concept-driven, often rooted in personal experiences and meaningful connections that shape strong narratives within her collections. For her FMP, she drew all of her inspiration from her personal involvement in the sport of cheerleading.
With the understanding that fashion is one of the leading contributors to environmental harm, I am driven to create more sustainable solutions. As a result, I focus on working with up-cycled and pre-existing garments, repurposing them into thoughtful, impactful designs which breathe new life. From up-cycling and repurposing existing garments I am able to create unique, personalised fabrics that reflect my creative vision.
INSPIRATION
There are many perceptions and stereotypes surrounding the sport of cheerleading and what it means to be a cheerleader. Through my work, I wanted to challenge those misconceptions and show the world that cheerleading is far more than its surface image—it's a powerful, high-impact, and physically demanding sport that deserves to be taken seriously. To reflect this, I chose to repurpose existing cheerleading garments, transforming them into custom fabrics and breathing new life into them through my designs.
This process allowed me to both honor the sport and present it in a new light, encouraging others to recognise its true value and intensity. In addition to challenging perceptions of cheerleading, I also wanted to highlight the environmental impact of the sport—specifically, the large number of kits that end up in landfills each year. By repurposing as many cheerleading uniforms as possible, I aimed to make a statement about waste within the industry and promote a more sustainable approach to fashion.
DETAIL
Alongside upcycling and repurposing donated and second-hand cheerleading kits, my collection aims to deliver a strong, bold message about the true nature of cheerleading. Often misunderstood or stereotyped, cheerleading is in fact a powerful and highly collaborative sport that demands immense strength, precision, and trust. These athletes quite literally come together—hand in hand—to perform spectacular stunts and gravity-defying tricks that require intense training and coordination. Through my designs, I also want to highlight the physical risks and seriousness of the sport, challenging the audience to look beyond the surface and reconsider their perceptions. Cheerleaders are far more than the image often portrayed; they are athletes, risk-takers, and team players whose dedication deserves recognition.
