About Me

Isabella Forbes is multidisiplinary artist based in London.

Isabella is an artist who thrives on taking a mixed media and experimental approach to fashion image making. Her passion lies in creating unique and captivating visuals that push the boundaries of traditional artistic expression, and allow her to engage with a range of unconventional artistic methods and mediums to bring her ideas to life.

Through my work, I strive to explore the realms of possibility, by constantly challenging the limits of my own practice and capabilites. I find beauty in the unexpected, seeking out unusual approaches that breathe new life into my creations. Recently, linear repetitive animation processes have captivate me on a profound level. There is a meditative quality in repetitive actions, a rhythm and flow that allows me to enter a deep state of concentration. These processes can be transformative, yielding intricate patterns and textures that add depth and complexity to my artwork.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration for my FMP began with exploring various ways I could distort my own form.

In my research, I discovered the groundbreaking works of Issey Miyake and Isabelle Wenzel, who further fueled my inspiration. Miyake's avant-garde designs and innovative approach to fashion constantly push the boundaries of garment construction and challenge established norms. Wenzel's mesmerizing self-portraiture explores the interplay between body, space, and movement, captivating audiences with her unconventional poses and compositions.

Drawing inspiration from these esteemed artists, I refined my own artistic voice and merged the realms of fashion, photography, and conceptual art in my project. It became a platform to explore the concepts of form, materiality, and the human silhouette, prompting viewers to question and reconsider traditional notions of self-representation.

DETAIL

Experimental layouts

When Isabella got to the point of formatting her final book, she wanted to stay true her much valued creative principles, and try to be as experiemntal as possible. She wanted the keep the viewer engaged, page by page, by variating her pages designs, and experimenting with unsual sequences and grids, which were created by converting moving image footage in to frames, and then formatting those frames into typology-like layouts.

"I have a soft spot for art that, in terms of subject matter and material, is in bad taste." - Jerry Saltz
