I love making and designing garments from fabric scraps. I find it very exciting and enjoyable to use what is about to be discarded and turn it into something different and fun. It also helps combat waste in the fashion industry as fast fashion is one of the biggest polluters in the world.
I fell in love with the fashion industry because I love the way I can express myself in so many different ways. I love being practical and hands on and learning new techniques. I try to learn as many crafts as I can to broaden my knowledge and try new practises so I get a taste of everything.
INSPIRATION
Whilst scavenging in my loft I spotted a big box of old clothes from the 70’s, which was my mother’s and her four sisters from their childhood. I started trying on all these items, clashing patterns, and layering everything on top of each other to make completely new garments. This sparked the idea of ‘Dressing Up Box’. Through this process I created the idea of using of deadstock fabric and scrap fabrics to produce a new, multi-use (reversible, detachable), sustainable and out of the ordinary garments.
Sustainability is a focus of my collection and the value of otherwise discarded or unloved fabrics became my prime focus. My main features will be pattern clashing, irregular patchwork effects and geometric shape making. By making these garments multi-use it can transform a cluttered closet of unloved forgotten items into a capsule wardrobe. Fast fashion is one of the biggest issues with our world today, and I want to help combat that.
DETAIL
I embarked on a journey to create this collection while keeping in mind sustainability. All fabrics were scrap, deadstock or donated to me. I loved every minute of creating this collection and I hope you enjoy viewing it too.
