I am a Fashion Menswear Design graduate creating a conceptual Autumn/Winter collection. With a love for illustration and drawing, I have pushed prints down a more abstract direction in an approach to classic menswear tailoring fabrics such as checks and pinstripes. These have been created through hand drawn mixed media.
Made for the unique modern man, who appreciates luxury fabrication and the importance of well-made quality garments. My aim was to produce a masculine aesthetic which perfectly describes both tradition and innovation whilst also keeping up a wearable style. The use of CLO allows me to digitally pattern cut my collection resulting in fewer physical toiles therefore reducing waste. Sustainability underpins the design process in this collection.
INSPIRATION
My inspiration comes from urban men’s streetwear and combining it with a hint of contemporary tailoring. This range focuses on the intention of construction from an architectural point of view together with how construction also builds a society. With both silhouette and colour deriving from the architectural structures of Frank Gehry. I am exploring the colour variation in tones picked up from the constructions being seen in different times of the day.
My collection offers an innovative approach towards current menswear really working on creating sleek shapes derived from the buildings and applying that to traditional menswear garments. Producing a very modern take on traditional menswear structures, cloths and finer details which is then merged with streetwear, particularly denim creating a striking juxtaposition in a clever way. Considering classic tailoring finishing’s; as well as denim topstitching and characteristics.
DETAIL
Within my project I explore how both streetwear and tailoring can be merged. I look at traditional topstitch seen on denim and have applied this throughout my collection in an accent colour of orange which works well with my blue toned garments. Also looking at traditional tailoring techniques which have been applied to my work and recreating traditional menswear cloth's in a more contemporary way using hand drawn mark making.
