About Me

Hi, I'm Harry, a fashion design graduate from AUB

Harry was inspired by his family ties to Yorkshire, where at least once a year he is able to visit the many members of his extended family.

Most of my family come from West Yorkshire, and although I have never lived in there, I feel a strong connection to the area. Through my collection I have aimed to celebrate the history and traditions of Yorkshire.

INSPIRATION

My initial ideas stemmed from the traditional grouse shooting outfits worn by my grandfather.

Seeking inspiration from the silhouette of the traditional plus fours my grandfather wore, and drawing colour from the surrounding environment of Keighley Moore (where he would have worn them), I began the process of constructing the narrative for my project. Researching into the fabrics made and worn in the area for hundreds of years.

Researching into the history of the county lead me to incorporate the industrial boom in the 19th century into my projects development. studying the historical utility wear that would have been worn in the factories and mills, and drawing inspiration from the details within them, such as their pockets, which are designed purely for function. The body of work i have curated celebrates the combination of the more rural side of Yorkshire and Its Industrial History.

DETAIL

The designs for my digitally printed fabric came from my mothers paintings of the Yorkshire moors

I incorporated my mothers oil paintings into my designs, as her interpretation of the colours of the landscape were so far from the literal colours, however the way the colours behave, with the bright bursts of pink, is exactly what I wanted to capture in my designs. With my Knit designs, I tried to match the colour behaviour with my yarns, using areas of hot pink in and amongst the green and beige.

"My dream is to own a Hockney - I'm a Yorkshireman, and his vibrant colours are a good example of how the north-country people are vibrant and colourful." - Brian Blessed
