About Me

I am a Fashion Knitwear Student graduating from NTU.

I am a knitwear designer who is led by concept and is driven by emotional underpinning meaning. Throughout the years I had grown emotionally invested and connected to my hometown coast lines, frequenting the beach to seek solace, contentment and a greater appreciation of nature.

Influenced by other concept driven artists such as Tracey Emin and Derek Jarman, I sought to epitomise the coast's therapeutic qualities and translate them into my collection. Initially drawing from primary images and visual research, I created fabrics which were reminiscent of the natural textures and colour proportions found on the coast. Later, I developed silhouette which explored voluptuousness, drape and scale to promote the luxurious, feminine and romantic themes underpinning the project.

INSPIRATION

My concept derived from my life-long emotional connection to the coast.

“Sense of Place” is inspired by the introspective activity of strolling on a quiet Kentish beach on a crisp winter's evening, disrupted by the occasional crashing of the waves, the furiousness of the wind and the lunar pull of the moon. My collection aspires to convey the solitary emotional journey you embark on whilst travelling through the terrain, conveying both the stillness and the chaos.

The “Trash to Treasure” side of the concept has derived from the bewildering amount of man-made waste and litter observable on the beach during my walks. My aim was to upcycle the litter sourced from the coast by featuring the discarded materials within garments and accessories throughout the collection. Exploring the ways in which the trash can be transformed into treasure after a series of upcycling processes will imbue value on the materials, increasing the longevity and novelty of the collection.

DETAIL

Details of Drop Stitch Dress

Inspired by the natural and organic patterns formed on the sand by the sea foam and waves. The dress features drop stitches in an organic composition teamed with travelling ribs throughout the panels to further distort the fabric. The dress is comprised of 6 panels all knitted on the 10gg Dubied. The lightweight nature of the fabric promotes movement and drape which correspond with the collections concept. The draw strings feature within the seam of the sleeve, creating a ruched effect when tied, resulting in more texture and impact. The level of detail and craftsmanship within the dress promotes a slow, considered approach to manufacture which promotes higher levels of customer satisfaction and longevity.

“Looking back at the paths you’ve taken is a really important exercise." - Antony Gormley.
