About Me

Hi I'm Hannah, a Fashion Photography Graduate from Solent Uni

My own struggles with body confidence and lack of plus size representation in media lead to my exploration of boudoir and glamour photography. The celebration of female form in all varieties. I love the simplicity of the traditional boudoir but my background in fashion styling lends to more complicated and larger concepts that heightens storytelling aspects.

The pandemic allowed me to work on some fantastic projects such as creatively directing and shooting Nearer the Moon’s 2022 S/S collection, being part of Solent’s model agency team ‘Soton Models’ and producing my fmp book. More importantly it allowed me to experiment and explore my style.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration is detail, vintage glamour, the relationship of fabric to figure and personality

Many aspects of my life have affected the inspirations of my work. Growing up surrounded by art thanks to my artist grandparents my work takes characteristics of how the female form is presented throughout history. Having A-Levels in both history and media studies (as well as photography) add to the need for my photoshoots to have a concept with a deeper meaning and connotations that each viewer may have their own interpretations.

My second biggest inspiration is the garments themselves. The different colours, textures, even sounds the fabric makes when the wearer moves can all be captured. Shining latex can be shot a lot differently to a sheer gown. Even though my work does focus on the model and their confidence in front of the lens it would be wrong to dismiss the time and effort that goes into making the clothing they are wearing.

DETAIL

‘Reveal: The Hidden Details of Burlesque’

The biggest highlight of my studies was making my FMP project ‘Reveal’, a coffee-table book celebrating the hidden details in Burlesque. When making the book I was able to meet a variety of performers and learn 101 ways to remove a glove. Simple sets were made to showcase their individual act’s costumes in a way as if the reader was front row at a Burlesque show. Despite meeting both physical and mental hurdles throughout the project I was able to perfect my skills in studio lighting as well as expand other sectors of my degree like creative direction and set design.
