About Me

Continuously flowing and changing

Hi, my name is Shun-Zhi Han, a fashion student from Taiwan. In my years of fashion learning I have found that "creating" means thinking outside of the existing definitions and exploring the fine lines within them.

Being that I’m in my early 20s a lot of ventures still await me and I aim to combine the above abilities with my desire to constantly improve myself so as to create work that arouses reflections, inspires and emotes feeling in people. Just as I’m inspired by artists such as Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan, Martin Margiela... etc. the submitted collection “First Time” is an attempt to integrate all of the aforementioned passions such as music, philosophy, photography and fashion design.

INSPIRATION

Philosophy, music and emotions--everything is connected in whatsoever way.

For me, music is logically and emotionally related to design. The way I produce music is the same as I design, they both require motives, concept, emotions, story telling, layer-building , resonance and aesthetic. However, music triggers deeper and more intuitively. When seeing that the inspirational designer ’Raf Simons’, held so much love for Kraftwerk, opened up a my curiosity for electronic music. Not only am I drawn to it, but the rebellious spirit behind the cultural history has greatly inspired me.

If music is the fuel, then philosophy is the foundation. It's not just the fountain of inspirations but the REASON we create. It's the “why” that gives us the drive to start a “what”, and the “why-not” that questions what has existed . As Socrates said “The more I know, the more I know that I don’t know”. It keeps me grounded and most important of all, it significantly influences me so much that it later became part of the inspiration for my design project .

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Dying with dough & paint, print with photography of memory, dissolving, changeable silhouette.

Since the theme is about the process of overall life form in a macroscopic perspective, it would be the best to transform the world into one of the materials. To start from a microscopic perspective—my own moments and memories , I edited the photos I take as I traveled around Europe and Taiwan, and turned them into prints. The dyed fabric which was made with dough, paint and hot stamping foil paper symbolizes the “process” of presence itself—for you can’t duplicate the exact same texture of each piece of the fabric with the method, it’s a metaphor of the uniqueness of every moment. In order to convey the concept of “one is all and all is one.”, it was natural for me to put down the consciousness as a human being, and to think of it as part of the flow in the bigger “one”. The gradually dissolving and twisted structure from look1 to look5 and the exchangeable shirts are the best ways to describe the subtle changing of subject and object between garment and human, which can be projected to anything.

It’s a conceptual comprehension and an emotional reflection about chronoception and presence. It's a personal journey with everyone involved and relatable. It’s a project of the process itself.
