My art has always been provoked by my emotions. I love new experiences and learning about other cultures and people. My work symbolises my love for storytelling and creating a feeling; one of the most wonderful aspects of art is that anyone can engage with it. Consequently, I use my artistry to investigate and explore the human condition to prompt introspection and conversation. Existence is a blessing, so I try to celebrate various aspects of life within my work, such as my connection and respect for nature. Society must be conscious of our impact for the sake of future generations.
INSPIRATION
Since the coronavirus pandemic, I have been engaging with my surroundings with a heightened sense of appreciation and curiosity. In the summer of 2021, the mess left by festivalgoers at the end of a music festival shocked me. This carelessness inspired me to upcycle to show that the discarded objects were still of value. I believe that creativity can inspire positive change; through design, we can create meaning and community. Understanding the story behind something adds emotional value and connection.
I promote transparency within my work because it disturbs me that most people do not know the story behind the objects they consume. This is a systematic issue. Consequently, I want users to understand the story behind their garments, so they can appreciate its emotional value, and add to through enjoyment. I want my work to disrupt the traditional fashion system and challenge society’s perception of second-hand clothing. I want to promote a circular economy with a rebellious and individualistic feeling.
DETAIL
My work focuses on literal connection alongside emotional connection. Modern life can be stressful and fast, which is why I want my collection to ground individuals and remind them to enjoy and interact with the moment.
