After attaining a first degree in fashion journalism from UCA, Grace is currently seeking work within the magazine/design industry. In addition to studying, Grace runs Bloom By Grace, a business where she hand-makes and sells toiletry bags.
Throughout uni, I've developed my skills and love for visual design, specifically magazine layout. This is something that I wanted to showcase in my final project.
INSPIRATION
During the pandemic, there was a rise in female-owned small businesses on Instagram and I was completely immersed in it. As my following grew, I found that the community wanted to know more about the business, but also me and my story. This idea of getting to know the creator triggered the concept for my final project at uni, Poco.
Poco is a magazine that provides a platform for female makers to grow and tell their stories. The magazine aims to promote female entrepreneurship and to let people get to know the faces behind their favourite small brands. Throughout my research, I found the majority of business-focussed magazine lacked in the design department; this is where Poco fills a gap in the market. Poco is a magazine that highlights businesswomen in a visually beautiful manner.
DETAIL
Throughout uni, I've really focussed on developing my design skills. For Poco, I wanted to focus on little touches that would make it unique. For example, including my own handwriting or creating my own illustrations to go with the content. Small details truly make a difference and shows the amount of love and care I've put into this project.
