About Me

Hi, I'm Gigi, a final year fashion design student from NTU

I love generating exciting ideas to develop my designs with different experimental methods. Moreover, exploring topics that are emotional and related to society is my favourite. I'm always curious about society and humanity, " why do people think the way they think?" So I'm hoping I can explore more similar aspects in the future.

Through these three years, the most memorable project would be my FMP. I enjoy spending time in the studio, figuring out how to make complicated patterns and turning them into beautiful garments. Making a garment is challenging, but the outcomes will bring joy and a sense of achievement. Besides designing, I love playing the piano, and it relaxes me when I'm struggling and sometimes, music gives me inspiration for ideas!

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration started with exploring the labelling and filtering culture in the society.

At the beginning of the project, I went to an exhibition about labelling culture. It spikes me on self-reflect. Have I ever put a label on others or even on my own? Do we label others with our standard? This project aims to carry out the message that we should stop filtering what we see and feel; stop labelling each other with our beauty standards.

In this contemporary society, labelling seems to become a trend embedded in our everyday life. Besides labelling, we also filter what we see and our emotions, only presenting the good side—by exploring the feelings that undergo us when we filter and the toxic beauty standards, inspired and translating it into an S/S womenswear collection.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I designed a collection with my own print which reflects on the filtering and labelling culture.

I designed this collection to show how we are restricted by the labels we put on ourselves or others. The bold colours print in graffiti style show the deep emotion we hide and the 'perfect side' we present to the public. What makes my prints interesting is that you would only see the red pattern when you put a blue filter on. Oppositely, in a red filter, you would only see the blue pattern, just like how we filter the reality and live in fantasy, and it's time to accept the flawless---UNVEIL&REVEAL.
