Georgia Burge is a creative who specialises in woman’s wear and print. Predominately designing outerwear garments with a strong link to sportswear.
I have always been conscious of the environment, and I wanted to produce a collection that reflects this through taking key inspirations from the outdoors and forming a sustainable collection using upcycled fabrics. Reflecting my personality into my work using bold vibrant colours and silhouettes
INSPIRATION
Through growing up I spent much of my childhood on the river where I live. Sailing became a passion for our family, and from here I wanted to use sailing as an inspiration to drive my concept. With sustainability as a key feature in the collection I was able to upcycle dis-used sails into garments.
Big bold silhouettes and vibrant prints became a large aspect of the collection, drawing from sails and the different types of prints and colours found within. Also drawing from the theory of buoyancy, incorporating inflatable elements. using technical fabrics found within sailing sportswear and taking this as inspiration to create a fashion garment/statement rather than a technical functioning for purpose garment.
DETAIL
Buoyancy is a key aspect within the collection. Researching into life supports I wanted to incorporate an inflatable element to the collection. Taking an Arm band to aid swimmers and repurposing the inflatable section to be used as collars and cuffs, with an air valve allowing this to be self-inflated and deflated. I also specialise in print, through photographing the numbers sewn on to the sail, that where distorted through the bellowing movement. The artwork was then sublimation printed on to stretch Lycra. The garment is a conceptual Sports top.
