About Me

Hi, I am Gabi a menswear designer from Northumbria University

Based around the historic and current trends in the ski industry, creating timeless pieces that sit alongside other lifestyle garments but still fulfils all the needs of a ski garment. Fitting correctly with the appropriate shaping to enhance movements made when skiing. Utilising the patterns and colours used within ski maps and mountain landscapes.

Menswear fashion that reacts to the wants and needs of consumers in today’s market, understanding the fit-for-purpose in all collections and creating a lifestyle product that can be worn by ‘any man’. creating a balance between lifestyle and technical purpose within garments, all while having effortless style. It is important to approach every project with research and an understanding of the historic values and influences while being mindful of responsible design practice in an industry increasingly under the spotlight for environmental damage.

INSPIRATION

Is it either Fashion or Function? Why not both?...

From being a lover of skiing myself, it felt only appropriate to dedicate my collection on the industry that dominates the Alpes. From being on holiday in various locations around Europe, it is indefinite that some skiers choose to look good on the slopes, rather than chose the appropriate equipment for the sport. I wanted to create an attractiveness to the collection as well and function, incorporating lifestyle pieces as well at the tech features becoming more accessible to any consumer.

Throughout thorough research in the technical objectives that come with preparing people for the slopes I found that these technical features can be hidden or designed well enough to not put off people from wearing them. I have taken this opportunity in researching sportswear and technical clothing to really advance my skills in pattern cutting, sewing and technical outerwear construction techniques. Such as, taping, waterproof trims, complex garment construction and tailoring.

DETAIL

Combining aesthetic with technically functional garments

By establishing what is missing in the market, Anyman has successfully create a wearable collection for both the outdoor enthusiast and the streetwear fanatic, by utilising technical and sleek fabrics to give an aesthetically pleasing hanger appeal. Feeding in a colourful colour palette that isn’t too overwhelming, with trims and print in hidden parts of the garments. Creating comfort within the garments, by using tailoring techniques that enable extensive movement as well as relaxing leisurewear. The collection as whole is completely fit for purpose and functional for outdoor sporting activities, but this will not come in the way of everyday use by an Anyman consumer.

"Consumers are seeking out fashion that serves a function" - Jessica Naziri
