About Me

Hi, I`m Feimata, a fashion design student from Nottingham Trent

Feimata is a creative, innovative fashion designer who specialises in print, Adobe Photoshop and Illustration with a passion for creating new fashion. I have learned many skills while studying at Nottingham Trent and gained a lot of knowledge about the fashion industry. Her goal is to become a great designer that inspires others through her culture.

I have noticed the lack of representation of the black culture in the fashion industry. I aim to break some barriers in the fashion industry; by using my culture to captivate others; I Aim to create an astonishing fashion collection inspired by my culture to educate others and open doors for the next generation. Growing up as a child, it was clear that I was very connected to fashion and my culture, and it was how I used to express myself. Upcoming of age, I always loved to read fashion magazines seeing over-the-top silhouettes, drama, colours and garment structures captivated me.

INSPIRATION

African scarifications are scars that thought to beautify the body, viewed as a test of courage.

Africa has a rich culture of scarification. The history of African tribal marking is a huge inspiration to me in our culture; when a child is 4-7. They go through -the process of scarification for identification, medical proposes, spiritual healing and protection against evil. After researching African scarification, I understood it on an even deeper level -which is why I just wanted us to cherish and not frown upon an ancient culture which had its purpose and was an integral part of our society.

I aim to design a women’s wear collection intended for the catwalk or fashion runway; for that reason, I created a bold and colourful print collection, something new, fresh and eye-catching. I intended to use some bright and colourful fabric, with a larger-scale print that is noticeable from afar and smaller-scale prints. With unique and interesting details, and as for my colour, I will be using bright, bold, and traditional colours.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I CREATED AN AUTHINTIC AND COLOURFUL PRINT THAT DEMOSTRATE THE BEAUTY OF MY CULTURE.

My research so far has allowed me to explore a variety of processes, including creating a new print inspired by African scarification markings and playing around with colour. I enjoyed making prints by using different colour techniques in innovative ways to create a colourful print fabric. I am pushing myself to create unique textiles and eye-catching fabric prints, which will be the main focus of my collections. I used my drawing skills to magnify the detail of my imaginary beings and experimented with scale to produce some initial ideas and silhouettes which reflect the top cute aesthetic. I also use a mixture of flat pattern cutting, pattern drafting and manufacturing; innovatively.

"I wear my scarification mark to distinguish myself from other indivudual, it tells my rank in society, family, clan, and tribe, and it symbolize my beauty or strength."
