About Me

HI, I'M ESTEBAN MONTOYA, A COLOMBIAN FASHION DESIGNER.

"My designs take as main reference the Asian culture, from where I abstract visual and conceptual elements, the research with anthropological character is fundamental in my process to reach aesthetic sightings that address the Asian-Colombian duo".

As time went by I began to realize that before nothing differentiated me from an Asian designer trying to deconstruct their culture, but being a Colombian who did, if it could be, I began to realize that Colombia generated me some very marked identity values such as technique and Asia an aesthetic purification, I began to generate pairs with different characteristics and values that both cultures threw me, creating a kind of symbiosis that would become my DNA as a designer.

INSPIRATION

ASIAN CULTURE MEETS COLOMBIA

From the beginning it was always clear to me that I wanted to work with Asia, I was born with an immense curiosity for the aesthetics of this continent, its history, its clothing and the symbolic acts that surrounded the day to day life in these cultures, acts such as, for example, the wonderful respect of taking off your shoes before entering a place seemed very interesting to me.

My taste began to grow as I consumed any type of content from these cultures, literature, art, fashion, architecture, calligraphy, music, history, anime or technique. Little by little I began to fall more and more in love with societies that were thousands of kilometers away and I did not understand the reasons... I began to question myself, and questions began to arise.

TEXTILE DEVELOPMENTS

It was always very important to me to try to translate all those conceptual ideas into something physical that could tell the whole story behind my research. In all my projects I tried to make some kind of textile development that expressed my ideas, kinetic developments with the help of graphics and surgical gauze were different elements that I used in my collections to represent my work.

"MY WORK IS A SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN MY INSPIRATION FROM ASIAN CULTURE AND MY IDENTITY AS A COLOMBIAN".
