About Me

Hey, I'm Erin, a fashion design student at University of Salford.

I am a final year fashion design student who specializes in Womenswear. However I have really enjoyed having fun with other specialisms such as Accessories and Menswear, in which I had the amazing opportunity to bring my bag design to life for Fred Perry, and was short listed as a finalist for a Pentland competition, with my menswear collection.

From participating in the Fred Perry x UoS brief and coming from a musical city Liverpool, I have developed a passion for Music and celebration which is a big part of my concept inspiration. I have carried this through to other projects such as my final project on Sound. It is universal and brings joy and happiness to so many, similar to colour, a big part of my aesthetic. I find it so exciting and uplifting, bringing joy to the project, designs and design process itself, which I feel is essential for both the consumer and I too.

INSPIRATION

My love for uplifting music and calming sound frequencies led me to 'Sound Remedy'.

In a world full of chaos, it is important that we have something to keep us sane, and for me in many ways this is sound, something that contributes to human betterment and wellbeing. From meditation and spiritual practices to celebration and music, Sound makes us feel all sort of emotions, it brings happiness, and togetherness, having similar roles to fashion. Both have contrasting functions and uses as well as bringing joy and confidence to many.

For my final collection I juxtaposed instrument's such as sound bowls and guitars focusing on how they create sound, drawing me in to specific details. This led to the development of my silhouette's and textiles techniques, one being the use of colour and ribbons to exaggerate the overwhelming explosive emotions experienced by sound. The ribbons brought so much life to my collection and I had so much fun trying innovative and creative ways of approaching a exciting yet challenging concept.

Exaggerated Ribbons

Ribbons are widely recognized within many different exciting occasions such as celebratory gifts, and Festivals, which is why I thought there was no better way to demonstrate the amazing, exciting and fun impact of Sound and Music. The vibrant range of colours and widths gave me so many amazing ideas to interpret my concept in a creative, innovative and enjoyable way.

I love colour, detail and experimenting with textiles, to give my designs and ideas life, making my projects fun and exciting, with a continuous flow of inspiration.
