My enthusiasm strives from textures found in nature and everyday life that are very visually inspiring, how this can be translated through a sketchbook development and the introduction of intricate designs through colours and textures.
When considering the designing process it becomes a innovative way to recreate high street menswear with a energetic and youthful appeal while still complying with the set concept. Oversized silhouettes and extravagant textures work well to play with scale and structure within a collection to make a statement in a professional way. Skills on the Domestic machine, Dubied machine and Shima Apex Design system help play a role to push knitwear to the extremes.
INSPIRATION
The concept of Gone Fishing is a visual exploration and investigation into elements of the fishing industries along the British coastlines focusing on fishing netting and buoys; with the theme emerging from a recent trip to Devon. Transforming primary imagery into a menswear collection of intricate and complex fabrication to create a statement line up.
Dramatic silhouettes will be illustrated that explore the keywords entrapment and entanglement in an energetic playful manor, through layers and scale whilst using elastic to create movement within the material textures. The line-up has been inspired by the visual primary imagery collected combined with traditional images of fishing in the 1900’s, translating these ideas into a modern collection with a sense of youth and energy, while also complying with functionality.
DETAIL
Yarns were knitted together to create a chunky taping, to which was looped on the domestic knitting machine to create exaggerated elongated tufts to create a statement oversized sleeve. The extravagant loops allowed the silhouette to strive, making a very oversized appeal and creating movement in the garment when worn. The colour scheme displayed nautical shades of blue and white with an accent orange highlight to harmonize the colours together. The yarns were sourced from sponsorship from Topline and Yeoman while also using second-hand yarns from the NTU to develop the idea of sustainability. The use of different yarns gave the collection lustre and extra detail to make the outfits eye-catching and reflect the concept.
