Specialising in womenswear and unisex wear, I enjoy designing streetwear that can be worn my anyone. I like to experiment with different shapes and colours to create eye catching digital prints that are bold, bright and colourful.
I often struggle with body positivity because of the toxic beauty standards set by society. I want to express myself properly through fashion and feel like myself without feeling judged by society. Through my collection I aim to show the wearer that they don't need to conform to societal expectations of beauty standards and they are free to express themselves without feeling judged.
INSPIRATION
Throughout my life I’ve experienced times where people have teased and bullied me for being plus sized and not adhering to societal expectations of the female body, and this has always made me feel that as a plus size woman I am not accepted by society. But society also expects me to be more feminine by looking pretty and wearing clothes that are made to fit smaller people. It’s these constricting and contradictory standards that leave many people to feel alienated.
My design ethos is about blurring the boundaries between these labels and beauty standards, combining masculine and femininity together to promote body positivity and body neutrality, as well as to change society’s expectations on beauty standards. Through my collections I aim to explore the body silhouettes that don’t conform to the beauty standards, and to show society that you don’t need to adhere to these constricting beauty standards to feel accepted by society.
DETAIL
The front and back of my ruched hooded garment has a ruching detail on the front and the back. I used black cord to to give it this effect. The ruched detailing makes this garment multifunctional. It can be made longer to look like a dress, long top or a cropped garment and can be worn by anyone, from womenswear, menswear or maternity.
