About Me

I'm Emma Foster, A graduate of Fashion Design.

Within Fashion Design my skills lie within romantic and feminine design, merging the natural female shape with functional design. My inspirations lie with historic and narrative based research.

Alongside Fashion design I specialise in Print design, Fashion illustration and embellishment design, My key elements include texture, print and silhouette, And I enjoy merging these elements into beautiful unexpected designed garments.

INSPIRATION

My Final collection is inspired by my Finnish heritage and summer holiday memories.

This collection is Inspired by my Finnish Heritage, from memories of Finland from my childhood summer holidays to the rich history of Finland and its people. My ambitions with this project was to merge themes of my childhood self, in the form of naĂŻve scribbles and patterns into themes of craftmanship within Finland's history. Creating a collage of patterns and prints, replicating the vintage photographs of Finnish families seen within my research.

Ultimately I wanted this collection to become a love letter to my Finnish summers, the greenery within its forests, and blues in its skies and lakes dominating my colour palette, the florals and printed fabric a homage to Finland's fabric printing and craftmanship history and the garment layering and Silhouette, inspired by the unique clothing worn by the Sami people.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Sequins and Lino carved flowers

For the details in this collection, I was inspired by various elements of symbols and patterns within Finnish History, from Viking influences ( sequin lattice ) to hand carved floral blocks, which I recreated for my own black flower print. I enjoyed experimenting with the balance of this outfit, deciding what areas to overlay the organza and the placement of the sequins to best accentuate the design.

"It is simply this: do not tire, never lose interest, never grow indifferent - lose your invaluable curiosity and you let yourself die, Its as simple as that - Tove Jansson
