About Me

Hi! I'm Emelia, a Fashion and Textile Designer from Portsmouth Uni!

Emelia Rees, a Fashion and Textiles Designer, created a size inclusive collection to address limitations in the fashion industry. Drawing from personal struggles, she aims to spark conversation and promote inclusivity. Her collection blends exciting prints and incorporates sports and leisurewear. Emelia’s unique designs challenge societal pressures and norms.

Throughout my educational journey, my unwavering passion for fashion for fashion has significantly grown. From GCSEs to a 3-year university course in Fashion and Textile Design, I continuously honed my expertise. In higher education, I developed a keen awareness in areas I want to explore. My skills include pattern cutting, CAD (including Adobe Suite), garment construction, and textile design. I especially love print design, as it allows for unique experimentation.

INSPIRATION

Displaying the transformative power of adjustable fashion for all shapes and sizes!

My ADJUSTING THE SYSTEM collection is all about showcasing the transformative power of adjustable fashion. I wanted to demonstrate how using different components and materials can alter the shape and silhouette of garments on different body types. My collection is a size-inclusive collection where each garment can be adjusted to fit the wearers body, from sizes 6 to 16. The collection challenges societal pressures that restrict certain body sizes to specific colours, styles and prints.

I believe that body types should not be limited to what they wear based on how they look. My collection is designed to empower individuals to wear what they love and feel confident in their own skin. This collection celebrates diversity and promotes inclusivity in fashion. I believe adjustable fashion is an essential tool for empowering individuals to feel confident and comfortable in their clothing regardless of their body type.

DETAIL

The power of an adjustable collection, size inclusive to create an adaptable collection.

I’ve explored using components and fabrics to transform garment appearance. The first outfit uses the power of materials and drawstrings to change the shape and silhouette on the body. This features a ruched, adjustable sleeve top. It can be altered depending on the wearers size. Coordinated with flared, ruched trousers. The idea stemmed from the image that depending on the wearers size, the stretch on the ruched panels will either go in or outwards to fit the body. The second outfit features 3 garments. Firstly, parachute cargos which have can be altered using drawstrings on the waistband as well as the trouser cuffs. The next garment is the bomber jacket, this jacket is also adjustable through the use of drawstring components. It is also fully lined and features an all over print on the lining, hood and sleeves. The final garment is the drop shoulder oversized tee, this has ribbing on the neckline to it can stretch depending on the size. Each individual garment features my unique individual print.
