About Me

HI, I'M ELLA, A GRADUATE FROM NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY

Although I strive to be a new upcoming Accessory Designer, I find it imperative to create accessories that contribute to people’s lives in a positive way. While taking inspiration from a variety of things surrounding our everyday, I always like to appreciate every little detail around us no matter what it is.

We need to recognise the need for change when it comes to our own mental states and need to come up with solutions to help people in every way to feel happier and less stressed. There's no reason why both Design and Fashion can't subconsiously support this.

INSPIRATION

MY INITAL IDEA SPARKED FROM THE NEGATIVE IMPACT ON PEOPLE'S MENTAL HEALTH DUE TO COVID-19.

With a nation affected by COVID in numerous ways, the affect it's had on people's mental health is far greater than anyone could have ever imagined. I saw it crucial to help people feel that little bit better, in anyway I could and create a soft uplifting collection. I first started looking into different forms of decay, looking at things that resemble the same feelings people are having with regards to COVID. Initially I started with decaying/decayed forms through architecture, textures and flowers.

My research developed further, looking at ways to give decay a positive outlook. 'Repair and Regeneration' focuses on creating an overall feeling of relaxed and calm. Moving away from the stigma of gloom and misery around decay, my concept developed into looking at the silver linings within. Which led me to incorporate colour therapy within my research. Colour highlights of green play a huge part throughout my collection representing new beginnings and acceptance all relevant to the future.

DETAIL

MY FINAL COLLECTION FOCUSES ON EVERYTHING THAT HELPS FORM A SOFT AESTHETICALLY PLEASING COLLECTION.

Despite my theme looking into the silver linings of decay and looking at seeps of colour elements, I like to pay attention to details throughout my work. The leathers I selected, I made sure were a mixture of softly textured, but also smooth creating a nice balance and creating that imperfect notion that imperfect can be perfect. Natural looking materials was a must when creating my colour palette and overall aesthetic whilst natural is better for the environment the natural nude colours also add an extra element of calmness which is important to this collection. I also wanted to explore the power of digital print and push forward my favourite most developed print, focusing on the inside details of the bags giving the collection that extra luxury element. Printing on a silky satin for my lining enabled my print to stand out in a delicate way. As a result, my collection is designed for the high end market using high quality materials that ensure my products have a long life span and please the customer.
