About Me

Hi i'm Ella an NTU fashion knitwear design graduate

I'm a fashion knitwear graduate from Nottingham Trent University and I have always had a love for textiles and colour growing up. But I originally started on Textile Design then transferred courses onto Fashion Knitwear because I became obsessed about knit and the material qualities that can be created from the discipline.

Using colour and pattern within my work is really important to me and is a driving point for my concepts as it helps set the mood for the story. It can be used in ways that are unexpected and thought provoking, combing the two to create a powerful outcome is what drives my final collection.

INSPIRATION

1980's architecture inspired my project Brutalist Beauty.

The Barbican and Trellick tower were the buildings that i based my collection on, primarily focusing on the pattern hidden in the architecture and the effects of perspective on the way we view the buildings. I used the reflection of windows to add colour into this collection as i wanted to make it playful and bright to really contrast the idea of brutalist architecture as the original buildings are plain and dull. Showing that we can create a playful but serious environment around us using colour.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Creating a collection with only 5% waste.

Waste is a big issue in the world, and I wanted my collection to consider this and help tackle the issues through sustainability. I won the Fashanne commercial design award with this project by highlighting waste produced in garment manufacturing through the packaging of my garments and creating swing tags to help tackle the issues we face as a society, including information about waste and how to help reduce textile waste. The swing tags are also interactive and include a QR code to show how much waste is in each garment, alongside a swatch of the waste created by the garments to show how waste is everyone’s issue.
