I am a creative that enjoys all things fashion, including fashion styling, graphics and layout and creative direction. I like to explore fashion in relation to other elements of culture such as pop culture, music and current affairs.
My main aim within my work is to allow for discussion, both lighthearted and meaningful conversations that are sparked by imagery alongside interesting layouts that aid the understanding of the story. This goes hand in hand with my passion for creative direction as it gives me the ability to craft a story through imagery containing styling, photography and makeup that all develop the narrative.
INSPIRATION
Amongst many other things, fashion is a major part of culture and society. I like the way that multiple parts of both mainstream culture and subculture influence fashion and are influenced by fashion, My dissertation focussed on the idea of high end brands gaining inspiration from trends within the working class, with a specific focus of Burberry's relation to the 'chav phenomenon' of the early 2000s and explored the general concept of streetwear fashion being inspired by marginalised black youth.
This concept really solidified the fact that inspiration can come from anywhere within society (as long as this is done with respect), even places that society may have once had disdain towards. A variety of inspiration allows for a variety of people to connect to imagery I create which allows for conversation.
DETAIL
Music is a key part of any culture and society and humans often feel like no one understands them or understands how they truly feel, so many use music to connect with others and express their true emotions to gain a sense of comfort and understanding. It’s a powerful tool for communication and bonding that anyone can relate to, everyone has a favourite song or artist, a playlist they listen to when they’re getting ready and a song they never want to hear again. My final major project took the form of a printed magazine called 'Replay' which takes the storytelling aspect of music and depicts the emotions and narrative of this through imagery. The issue delves into the question of “what song would you want to hear again for the first time?”, for many, this question would comprise of songs that encapsulate childhood memories, first relationships, hearing lyrics that feel accurate to your life in that moment or just feeling unexplained joy when listening to that song.
