About Me

Hi, I'm Diandra a fashion design graduate inspired by futuristic art.

Diandra is an artist specialising in illustration, conceptual fashion and character design. Her personal ethos describe fashion as a perpetually inventive and explorative art form. Being drawn to a visionary attitude toward fashion she is engaging in a highly experimental approach to design and pattern making.

The culmination of my studies have highlighted a vivid interest in viewing fashion as an art display rather than everyday wearable articles. After thoroughly researching avant-garde designers, such as Rei Kawakubo or Gareth Pugh, I realised I have found the area in which I belong as a fashion designer, an area where creativity is celebrated regardlesss of how outrageous or impractical it may seem. I happened upon a part of the industry where I can explore the limits of my imagination across disciplines.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration arose from bio-mechanical art.

The genesis of this project occurred from a deep-rooted interest in the outer space, more specifically the visions portrayed by sci-fi movies and video games such as the Alien trilogy, Alita, Dead space and The evil within. I wanted to reinterpret similar visuals into my designs. In pursuance of summoning unsettling emotions in the viewer I have chosen to add details of gore. The macabre work of HR Giger had influenced and informed the combination of organic matter and technology I was aiming for.

The muse suffers physical metamorphosis resembling alien carnal infestation and cybernetical enhancements. The body becomes a technological shell for organic matter to inhibit and create new silhouettes. The overall concept is inherently ominous as the outer space lacks any bright source of light hence elements of transparency and gold accents are used to contrast the sinister, and engulfing darkness of the cosmos.

Digitalisation and Technology

Building a new architecture for the body often requires the assistance of technology. Processes such as 3D printing on a large scale, laser cutting, material manipulation using heat and digitalisation make it possible to create unusual texture, shapes or finishings that fabric cannot replicate. A vital step between concept and materialisation is transforming the chaos of a sketch into accurate technical flats to be understood across a multitude of disciplines.
