About Me

Hey! Im Courtney, a graduate from University Of Portsmouth.

This collection comes from the heart and hopes that creating this will allow younger people to know the signs and how to deal and cope with these diseases alot sooner. Courtney was inspired by loosing her grandad to dementia and wanting to create an awareness in healthcare to speak of these types of diseases more through the generations and to bridge families.

Courtney used a mixture of comforting fabrics and included useful accessories to always have at hand. Her goal as an upcoming designer is to create new experiences, emotions and challenges within the fashion industry. Courtney is wanting to design to suit and benefit all people. Her message is that we need to understand all of these types of diseases and let them be heard through fashion and textiles.

INSPIRATION

The desire to create something that benefits someone with dementia.

A collection around the theme of dementia, because there isn't anything in the fashion industry to help support someone with this disease. I thought of ways in which I could create something beneficial but also with a sense of humour. Looked into different fabrics, items, colours and font styles that could be easy to read and understandable. I am wanting to speak of these types of diseases more to allow families to have the chance to spend as much time as they can with someone with dementia.

I thought about the type of items to design, that would bring about the fun and confused look - items that would be seen as forgetful but also helpful to have on you if you forget easily. Materials such as recycled fabrics/knits for a comfortable but easy to put on and off collection.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Recycled fabrics, blanket and jogging bottom material as well as purchasing wisely

Using sustainable and recycled fabrics allowed me to create a mixture of textures and colours. The focus of the collection is on health and wellbeing as I am aiming to raise awareness through different generations. The style of clothing can be worn by a grandchild or grandparent, male or female. I wanted to use clear simple text on my textile print, that did not overwhelm the whole look but can help someone with dementia to know which way the garment should go so. Including 'mini instructions' and a medical id badge symbol clear on the pockets. I wanted to focus on health and well being because comfort towards someone with dementia is key, so is having functional garments that work in their favour, with easy access to pockets and other items.

Fashion and textiles is powerful and creative. We can use this to create a major positive impact on health and wellbeing allowing more awareness and solutions being generated to help with diseases.
