About Me

I'm Chloe a Fashion Design and Marketing graduate from Northumbria Uni

Specialising in print, my attitudes towards design have a colourful and textual focus. With a specific focus on personal connection, my FMP is driven by looking at timeless and old silhouettes combined with contemporary designs to create new and unique garments.

Whilst studying Fashion Design and Marketing for the past four years, my work focuses on creating collections inspired by my heritage and the personal connections created from this. My work has a unique approach but has the aim of being something everyone can relate too.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration came from the lockdowns and the desire for normality.

My inspiration was created during the ever ongoing time of Covid -19, resulting in the desire for normality and comfort. My inspiration is to be unique and to celebrate life and colour, creating personal connections and meanings resulting in individuality. I wanted to create a place where a person would feel warmth and happiness. I used print and created designs that would show a way of mixing past with present, having personal identity as the main aim of what I create.

I was inspired by photographs and how this created an escapism from reality. As well as the nostalgic memories and connections that come from the old photos. I started researching using mixed media onto family photographs which resulted in the concept 'A carriage full of memories'. I wanted the mixed media to create effects on the images that show how memories can be faded, altered and distorted but always having part remaining.

'A Carriage Full Of Memories' Spring Summer 2023 - The Print

Heavily inspired by mixed media, it was important that the prints throughout my garments represented my aims and concept. I used a combination of different printing techniques to symbolise the mixed media. The prints used on my screens were created using mixed media photographs which include stitch and bleach. I decided to use the printing technique discharge which worked in a similar way to the bleach. The collection was also heavily inspired by digital printing. I wanted my prints to express my concept, this being memories from photographs which was the inspiration behind the faces on my garments, these faces being my family members and myself. I created an abstract collage affect whilst printing to represent the overlapping and mixture of memories.

“One of the best ways to make yourself happy in the present is to recall happy times from the past." - Gretchen Rubin
