About Me

HI, I’M CHIARA MENAPACE A GRADUATE FROM ISTITUTO MODARTECH

My inspiration came from a personal experience as a victim of bullying, the collection is the positive result of that experience. A process of "healing" a reconsideration of the vision of the body in its entirety, especially the defects of it, which make it unique as a work of art.

My message: to create a free, inclusive reality where everyone plays the role of an artist, who creates his own work of art; that is your body. Starting from the old coats of painters transforming them into free forms, large volumes, which symbolize precisely that freedom of expression of oneself. MyBodyMyArt: uniqueness and freedom, a respect for the environment, enhancement of craftsmanship and creativity.

INSPIRATION

MY INITIAL IDEA STARTED FROM MY PAST EXPERIENCES OF BULLYISM

Today we live in a social reality, where we hide behind screen filters, to appear "more beautiful", to fall within the canons of this society. “We are what we do”. I believe that each of us is formed thanks to our own experiences, both positive and negative, and along the way we create a work of art: ourselves. In fact, the collection gradually develops like a painting: starting from the white canvas to the work of art.

In the first place I drew inspiration from the garments of an artist: the dungarees and the shirts, and I transformed them into free forms like canvases for painting. I wanted to create a body of work that showed natural beauty, especially the "defects" of our body such as acne, vitiligo, and various "malformations". Secondly: a concern for sustainability. I selected fabrics with a lower chemical composition, and I recycled old vintage leather coats to obtain the material and make the accessories.

DETAIL

I HAVE TRANSFORMED DEFECTS INTO A WORK OF ART

In the first place I started creating the prints: I painted, brushstrokes on pieces of fabric. Then I photographed them and brought them back to digital to create the prints for each individual garment. Above the print I painted further to bring out the details, finally I enriched the work with needle punching, straight machine embroidery and hand embroidery to bring out the "defects" of the body and make them a real work of art.
