About Me

Hi i'm Charlotte, a Fashion Graduate specialising in art direction.

I was inspired by the varied subcultures of young fashion and lifestyle within the 2000’s, ranging from one extreme of alternative fashion to indie styles. I also took inspiration from 2000’s scrapbooks and young girl’s magazines. I held focus groups and discussions with my target market to discuss first hand experiences of fashion and lifestyle in 2000’s.

My message aims to promote nostalgia in my young female target market. Many of my target market were young girls in the 2000’s, and my fun scrapbook style editorials re-create that feeling of youth and scrapbooking your favourite celebs. The project is meant to be fun, expressive, and colourful; made for a girl who is bold and exciting in her fashion choices. The project also focused on marketing visual media to my target market through social media channels. I developed a brand ‘DEAD EYE DOLLY’ and created a detailed social media marketing plan for this contemporary, trending fashion brand.

INSPIRATION

My concept came from my love for the current Y2K fashion trend, and fashion from my youth.

Many people when they think of 2000’s fashion, imagine some of the more unpopular trends of the decade. As I saw 2000’s fashion trends re-emerging, I didn’t think of some of these now unpopular trends from then, but how they could be re-created to be fashionable and desirable in today’s industry. I loved seeing 2000’s fashion in current day with influences of 90’s grunge, indie fashion, alternative fashion and many more styles being introduced to create a new fashion subculture with the name Y2K.

As a young girl in the back end of the 2000’s I found these styles to be nostalgic in remembering my fashion icons as a young girl. I wanted to focus on creating that feeling for others while reflecting my own style in my 2000’s inspired styling and editorials. To gain first hand experiences of 2000's fashion and lifestyle, I held focus groups with my target market to discuss their memories of the decade. This generated ideas on lifestyle, iconic figures, fashion trends and much more to continue research.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I used digital drawing, photo editing and hand drawn techniques to create my final editorials.

Using studio shoots gave me the ability to create collaged editorials and play with the background effects in images. I was also able to get that modern, trending, and contemporary brand feel for my visual marketing and PR. Using hand drawn techniques enabled me to re-create that DIY scrapbook feeling and create colourful and bold editorials. I experimented with many different photo editing techniques to try and create VCR style images and retro photographs, and recreate that new feeling of technology that was emerging in the 2000’s. The final editorials displayed my concept well with the use of effective styling with contemporary, trending Y2K garments, and 2000’s inspired visuals and stickers used throughout my editorials. I represented two different styles in the final editorials, that being alternative style fashions and contemporary indie and pop styles.
