Fashion has always inspired me because of how open and endless the possibilities seem to be. I enjoy many aspects of this industry but chose to focus on pattern cutting and product development. My goal is to make all my work have a meaningful impact, for myself and other people to enjoy.
The work I have produced has focused on areas I am passionate about. From mental health and the violence seen during the Covid-19 lockdowns, to nature and my hometown. I use my own motivations and experiences to create unique work that will help start conversations about topics that need to be brought to the forefront of people's minds.
INSPIRATION
I wanted to focus my final collection on my hometown, Great Grimsby. This is mostly because every time I tell someone where I am from, they generally raise an eyebrow. Although the once-thriving industrial town had now changed the people and the proud heritage remain. The iconic architecture and long-standing fishing references make Grimsby, still, an amazing place to have come from and to return to.
Using Grimsby’s iconic history, I created prints and silhouettes. From traditional working-class jobs, I created the silhouettes. The colours were taken from local graffiti that has always been present and a landscape of the most iconic landmark of Grimsby. The prints were from historic moments that helped develop Great Grimsby into the proud town it became over the years.
DETAIL
With my silhouettes mostly coming from workwear, I wanted to create prints that were aspirational for the people of my hometown. The most commonly seen prints throughout my work came from the visual analysis I completed during my research. These simple ideas coming together became effective communicators for my concept. My goal throughout this collection was to raise the reputation of Grimsby Town, I believe this was made possible through my work with prints.
