About Me

Hi, I’m Catira, a final year student at Colegiatura Colombiana.

Catira Vargas is a fashion designer with a deep love for the natural environment. Her passion lies in enhancing everyday life by making it more delightful through design. She aspires to create responsibly crafted products by using eco-friendly materials and ensuring fair wages for the artisans she works with.

Catira studied Geology for 3 years before switching her major to Fashion Design. These studies reflect in her design conceptualization, often exploring themes of geological eras and the future of planet Earth. Along with this, she enjoys exploring weaving techniques using leather as the principal material.

INSPIRATION

After the Holocene

By looking beyond our current geological epoch - the Holocene - and understanding existence as an ever-evolving process, we open the door to new potential future scenarios for our planet. In this context, we can envision that, on Earth, as has consistently occurred, the conditions supporting life will undergo changes, resulting in the emergence of new vegetation and the appearance of previously unforeseen fauna.

In the future, nature will continue to evolve according to the same fundamental laws of the present, following the Fibonacci sequence, and thereby challenging the artificial structures left behind by humanity. In this project I got to unite my two passions, fashion design and geology. Allowing myself to experiment between both disciplines, I can generate new outcomes in my materialization. I used the Fibonnaci sequence as my patterns, scaling the proportions to generate different drapes.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

Replicating natures growth through naturally occurring materials and forms.

The looks represent natures growth, and how it will overpower the architectural structures humans will leave behind. The grey look represents the intial stages of primary succesion, where pioneer species begin to emerge. The collection ends with an overpowering and heavy draped piece, representing natures strength and resilience.
