About Me

Hi I'm Caitlin, a fashion communication graduate from UWE!

I am an image-maker creating work that surrounds themes of the female form, beauty standards and expression. My intentions are to create work that celebrates and empowers the body, creating a sense of inclusivity for all who view it. I want to be able to create a platform through my imagery which can be a place to escape from societal pressures.

I enjoy creating print and digital publications both for live briefs and self-directed projects. This includes digital and analogue photography as well as Photoshop and InDesign. My most recent work includes creating a zine and short film using premier pro, celebrating the female form where I cast, styled and interviewed an inclusive range of strong women. I have received positive feedback from the models who have told me how it has improved the way they perceive themselves and their relationship towards their bodies.

INSPIRATION

The non-sexual representation of the female body

As women, we begin forming insecurities from such a young age which only suppress our confidence. An obsession about the way we are perceived begins early on. The majority of women who are depicted in the media have been hyper-sexualised and their portrayal is often derogatory. I wanted to create imagery that empowers women and allows them to express their body freely and however they feel comfortable.

My aim was to liberate the models and bring them out of their comfort zones whilst providing a place for those who resonate with their bodies, values and perceptions. I wanted to photograph them in a variety of poses that are not deemed as lady-like or sexy, expressing their confidence through poses that make them feel powerful. I looked at Sinead O'Dwyer who often explores how we perceive our body vs how it looks.

DETAIL

'My body' is a series of images, a publication and a short film

Ruby, Jem, Mon, Ariane and Maisie have been photographed in maximalist undergarments, celebrating their body and feeling empowered. Exploring the relationship that five women have between themselves and their body.

It was a revelation and totally liberating to know that I was valuable and beautiful and that a nude body is not just about sex.” Emma Shapiro
