About Me

Hi, I'm Bruna Neves. A Fashion Design student from Derby University

I am a fashion designer based in the UK and Portugal. My biggest passion is to be able to understand what is happening in the world, and transform it into a concept/collection, showing mostly emotions and thoughts. In my studies, I also want people to feel heard and seen, understood by what they are going through.

While studying at university I was able to understand and apply different techniques, that helped me to communicate in a professional manner. I was also able to adapt quickly to completely different types of briefs, learn how to know what the client really wants and how to remain in contact with clients for future contact. Even though the industry is quite competitive, we have to know that it is important; to have teamwork and have people that we can rely on, people who challenge you and make you want to be the best at what you do.

INSPIRATION

"Under the Water" - You are Seen and Heard

My collection explores depression and anxiety with visuals of sirens, jellyfish and kelp. I represent these visuals into how I and other people, felt and feel when having the worst days and good days with depression and anxiety. Sirens are known to sing beautifully to sailors bringing them to their demise, I translate this into depression, our brains being the sirens that sing to us to stay in bed all day, sing for us to not eat, to no clean, to not do our work...

My focus in this collection is to let people know they are never alone, there is always someone there to help, to listen, to talk to! I want people to feel like they are not alone and they can trust others. I want them to feel understood and seen! I put this main focus, of this collection, on the textiles area, this being the sub print and the hand knit or Shima knit added with my print design. The print was based off of a jellyfish head because that is where everything happens, our brain!

DETAIL

Fabrics as feelings

I used fabrics to translate how one feels when going through depression and anxiety. This being mostly heavy fabrics like Melton and Burel wool, also utilizing woolly type yarns to create that complex and heavy feelings/topic. Contrary to this I have also added very delicate fabrics like linen to explain that we are fragile, and people can see when we us and that we are going through a hard time. The abstract print was taken inspiration from a jellyfish head, which is representing our brain, where all our thoughts happen.
