The inspiration behind this project stemmed from Blue's interest in the UK’s emerging talent and the collaborative street culture surrounding art and fashion. The concept brand, Blue Resident, acts as an interchanging showcase of artists that shift seasonally, drawing cues from traditional art residencies.
Although fashion is primarily based on aesthetic elements, Blue wants modern consumers to reflect further on the purchase decision. This involves understanding the story behind the garments and the brand, involving who physically made them, the creative processes and the material components. This builds emotional durability towards the garment, fulfilling a deeper meaning as to what we wear and why.
Blue Resident explores the new wave of multi-disciplinary talent. To achieve this I collaborated with five amazing artists/designers working throughout Textiles, Fine Art, Fashion Marketing and Fashion Photography courses. Each one acted as an ‘Artist-In-Residence’ and specifically designed an outfit each for the conceptual brand. Sustaining my passion to empower the young creative generation and what they’ve got to give. This supports their innovative forms of creativity and forward-thinking nature.
Blue acknowledges fashions over-consumption and waste issues by integrating responsible practices throughout the collection. It's important that each design was constructed from either recycled, reworked or natural materials, eliminating as much harm to the environment as possible. Durability was a significant driver for the collection, aiming to create clothes that are not only intended to be loved, but loved for a long time. This was carried throughout the business plan with zero exceptions.
Blue Resident is a youthful and experimental brand, with a focus on the power of creativity. We hope to steadily build a collaborative hub that explores the UK’s multi-disciplinary emerging talent. This mission is carried out through four distinctive values. Initially, we aim to provide a space where artists can delve into alternative mediums outside of their usual environment. We essentially want to ignite young innovation and thinking through alternative perspectives. Our collaborators will be the potential of the new wave artists. They exude the ability to embrace the creative spirit and think outside the status quo. With our target audience, we aim to build a genuine community, with an open discussion about shared interests and social issues. We want to stand in unison with them. Finally, we have pride in our forward-thinking nature. With an emphasis on responsible practices running through all parts of the brand, with zero exceptions.
