About Me

Hi, I am Aswani, a graduate from the University of East London

The Indian classical Bharatanatyam dance inspires me to explore the beautiful movements and emotions of the dance characters in my textile collection.

Through Bharatanatyam dance, I have learned the importance of culture and religion. To keep it alive and spread its values, I have created my whole textile collection inspired by Bharatanatyam dance.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration comes from the traditional dance of India.

I have known this dance form from my childhood, and it has spiritual beauty in it. This dance form is storytelling of love, devotion and demons with expressive facial expressions, body movements and hand gestures. The dance movements inspired me to think of combining them with a textile collection.

Bharatanatyam dance has been part of my life, and I have experienced the spiritual beauty and the movements in the dance form. The dance form has influenced me to create a new style of textile prints with the motifs of the dance form.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I used embroidery and digital print technique to create my textile pieces.

My textile collection has a couture style of embroidery. All my textile pieces are pure silk and I have used goldwork embroidery and machine embroidery. Apart from that, I have experimented with digital printing using beautiful motifs. My aim is to show the culture and beauty of the dance forms through my textile collection.

Fashion is not just a label, its a mixed emotions
