About Me

Hi, I'm Ashleyanna, a final year student at Birmingham City University

Ashleyanna was inspired by lil Kim and her home town. exploring different medias. Which included spray paint, paint, and charcoal to make a detailed print.

I Personally believe that women should be allowed to wear whatever they want without being judged. They should be able to Dress however they want to build their confidence. She should be bold, beautiful and be able to voice her opinion, not only through words but also her fashion. I take pride in spreading positivity and breaking the stereotype. I have been inspired by Lil Kim, because although she was in a male dominated industry she found success with her sexy persona and talent. I love scandalous clothing, Hence why my brand will be focused on women's empowerment through clothing.

INSPIRATION

LIL KIM - Brooklyn and lifestyle

The idea came from my love for rap music and black culture. At first I was looking into different female rapper when I when I came across lil Kim. Well I already knew about her and I was inspired by her fashion in the 90s. I started researching into her life as young girl and where she grew up and her lifestyle. Because she's from Brooklyn I started looking into the city. Areas of the city have walls that are covered in graffiti. I knew immediately that's what I wanted to include in my work.

My second concept is a about a western American Girl travelling to Japan for the first time and experiencing the culture and lifestyle. Throughout her journey she becomes interested In the streetwear fashion and liveliness of the city. The fashion uniqueness of the people casually walking on the streets of Japan, art museums, street graffiti and detailed building with kanji writing on billboards.

DETAIL

I use spray paint to create a print

I used a mixer of medias to create both print. I used a brown dye to change my deconstructed garment from white to brown. after doing so I tied the garment and spray it with bleach and when it was dry I unravelled it. the colour was a bit brighter than what I had imagined. To get get my desired shade I went a head and dip it in hot coffee concentrated water. allowing the colour to get darker.
