About Me

Hi, I'm Aoife, a fashion photography graduate from Cornwall

Aoife Taylor is a creative from Cornwall who specialises in fashion photography. She predominantly shoots on film, creating a soft, comforting look to her images, combined with shooting on location to help tell a story she’s trying to portray.

After three years of studying fashion photography, I've refined my photographic style and grown more confident in my work. I'm interested in immersing my model in the locations around me, as I think that working with my surroundings allows me to be more creative. I have a strong affinity with nature, which I attribute to my upbringing in the countryside. I've always loved analogue photography, but during my time at university, I focused on honing my digital skills in order to improve my photography. However, in recent months, I've returned to film, knowing that it's where my abilities lie.

INSPIRATION

My initial inspiration started with my dad’s love for being outside and around nature.

My Dad was the base of my inspiration for this project as I thought it would be interesting to combine his love for outdoor activities with my love for shooting outside. I wanted to turn the activities he does such as birdwatching, gardening, going on walks and exploring the local rivers, into editorial shoots. Once I had these foundation ideas, I moved onto researching into other things such as sustainability within fashion and waste and the growing interest that the younger generation has in gardening.

A big inspiration for me was the North Face x Gucci birdwatching campaign, which encourages the younger generation, especially people of colour, to get outside and to show that nature doesn’t discriminate. I wanted to make sure I was diverse with my casting choices and to find sustainable locations such as allotments, that helped show the beauty of nature and what we don’t appreciate enough.

MY WORK

PORTFOLIOS

DETAIL

I made sure to work in interesting locations where I could use the surroundings to elevate my work.

Because sustainability is important to me, I knew I wanted to collaborate with young, emerging designers who believed in sustainability and slow fashion above fast fashion brands. When it came to shooting, I chose places like allotments and nature pathways to emphasise the importance it has on the world and nature. I wanted to make sure that I considered how I composed and framed my shots so that you could get a true sense of the atmosphere surrounding the models. I believe that shooting on film made a significant difference in this project compared to shooting on digital since it forced me to be more concise with what I captured, resulting in stronger photographs. My goal with this project was to shine a new light on young people stepping out into nature, and I hope that my photographs reflect that.
